Goal Setting
Setting goals
“It almost doesn’t matter what you know. Execution is what matters the most.” - Andy Grove (A computer engineer manager), shared by John Doerr during TED talk: [Why the secret to success is setting the right goals | John Doerr](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4N1q4RNi9I&feature=youtu.be) |
It’s all about execution.
Objectives and Key Results
(OKRs): It’s a simple goal setting system. This works for organizations, team, and individuals.
- “Objective is the direction” (What you want to accomplish”)
- “Key result has to be measured but at the end you can look, did I do it or did I not do it? Yes. No. simple.” (How you are going to get the objectives done.)
Many set goals wrong. Most don’t set goals at all. Lots of organizations set up objectives and meet them but they lack a sense of purpose to inspire their teams.
- Define
Why
(could be driven by your values). This drive purpose and objectives. Then create Objectives that are signification, concrete, action oriented, and inspiring. - Define
Hows
which are the key results. Good results are: Specific and time bound, aggressive yet realistic, measurable and verifiable.
